I’ve been a mother for over 3 years now and I’ve learned every stage so far comes with incredible rewards and a certain amount of challenge. It’s always interesting to see what each new stage brings. Currently my day is filled with ‘rewards’ for good behavior and doing what is asked of her. We are trying to positively reinforce everything good that she does.
Here is a run down of a typical day of ‘rewards’ for our daughter (in addition to lots of positive praise of course):
3:30(ish)am: extra hugs and kisses to go back to sleep after getting up to go potty
6:30am: a bite of my breakfast after she asked nicely with ‘please’
7:25am: getting to put her ‘lips’ (lip balm) on for being a good listener and getting her shoes and coat on the first time
7:40am: extra hugs and kisses when I drop her off a daycare
7:45-4pm: stickers and prizes to reinforce good behavior and hard work with my students
5:00pm: 10 minutes on the ipad if she has a dry day and took a nap at daycare
5:30pm: a piece of candy if she eats all her dinner
6:00pm: a chocolate coin if she goes #2 in the potty
7:30pm: an extra bedtime story when she gets ready for bed nicely
My whole day is filled with giving out rewards and positive praise for others. Most mothers’ days are. It’s part of the wonderful gift we are given as a mother. Our life is no longer our own, and honestly that is a blessing. Each child is a tiny miracle.
But it can be stressful! I know I feel like there are some days when I am constantly rewarding and helping everyone else and don’t have time for myself. For all we do, mothers definitely need a reward! Easy solution? I give myself a reward on some of those tough days. After dinner is done and the kitchen is cleaned, after my lunch is packed for tomorrow, after Claire’s and my clothes are laid out, and everything is picked up it’s my turn for a reward!
