When to Clean Out Your Closet (and When Not to)

I am an advocate for doing frequent clean-outs of your closet. I try to subscribe to the ‘one in, one out’ train of thought so my closet doesn’t become overwhelming. After all, we know that happens way too easily! Getting rid of what is torn, worn, or stained is important. Donating what no longer fits or what you don’t like is important as well. It leaves you with less to focus on, and a completely wearable closet. But how far do you go when cleaning out your closet? Maybe too far at times?

Fashion is ever-changing, but also cyclical. Trends come and go and then come back. So if you have a very classic piece that fits you really well, you might want to consider keeping it for a while. Case in point. These jeans were a clearance find at Gap years ago and I love everything about them. The fit, wash, and length are on point. So even though I donated all my other flare jeans, these stayed. Lo and behold flare jeans are back. These are without any trendy details so I was happy to pull them out again a couple months ago. No searching the stores to find the perfect pair of flare jeans again because I already had them. So don’t forget that when cleaning out your closet, there are a couple items that you might want to set to the side!
