I cannot believe how fast the year has been going! Next week is already October and before we know it the holiday season will be upon us. I have to confess I already have a list of people I want to get presents for with gift ideas for almost every one of them. We have been ordering things here and there for a few months, too. Typically I don’t start quite this early, but I wanted to get as many things done before our baby comes in November! No one wants to haul a newborn out to stores or spend time searching online for gifts. No thank you! We want to enjoy every second as a new family of four.
There are other benefits to start holiday shopping and preparation early, too. It’s much easier on the budget to spread the spending out over several months versus all in the weeks right before Christmas. There are enough things that strain the budget around the holidays like holiday outfits, all the baking and cooking, travel expenses to be with family, and more. It’s enough to make your head spin and your wallet feel particularly light.
We always try to keep our spending in check, but especially this time of year. We do that several ways. First of all, we try to give handmade gifts to as many people as possible. I enjoy crafting and so putting time and effort into gifts comes naturally to me. I try and start early on making gifts so I have time to make gifts for as many people as possible. Another way we save some money is by buying some of our holiday outfits secondhand. I’ve gotten some beautiful designer dresses for myself through thrifting and amazing deals on adorable outfits for my daughter, too.
And finally, when pulling out our coats and sweaters and cleaning those holiday outfits, we skip the dry cleaners and use Dryel instead. Dry cleaning bills really add up over time. By switching to Dryel, you can save money each month by not paying those dry cleaning bills and doing it at home. It costs as low as $0.25 a garment. That’s a huge savings that can really help out this time during the holidays! My husband thinks Dryel does an even better job than the dry cleaners with getting stains and smells out, especially with the booster spray. And with Dryel’s stain pen that even works on delicate clothing, you can get those stains out of even delicate items. You know that with all those holiday parties something is going to get spilled on your clothes so I always keep one handy in my clutch!
