Have you ever used Poshmark? Or have you even heard of it? If you are unfamiliar with Poshmark, it is a secondhand thrifting app in which individuals create accounts to buy/sell clothing from other individuals. Poshmark takes a small portion of proceeds from sales and acts as a moderator of sorts in addition to supplying shipping labels.
I’ve been using Poshmark to sell clothing I no longer wear and to purchase for over 5 years now. While I wouldn’t say I’m a pro by any means, I have figured out some tips. If you are looking to begin using Poshmark or wanting to score some deals I hope these Poshmark shopping tips are helpful. This is NOT sponsored in any way, just thought I could pass along some tips I’ve learned.
-
Use a code
- When you sign up, if you use a referral code, you get $10. That is like a free piece of clothing! My referral code is IDODECLAIRE so if you enter it when you sign up, you’ll get the funds in your account. (I will get $10 if you make a purchase.)

Search Tips
- Alter your search terms- If you are looking for a specific item think about the different terms you can use. For example, search according to designer, size, color, type of print, and item type. Sellers only occasionally use the brand label so don’t only stick to that. Using too specific of a search won’t yield results.
- Don’t stop looking- Once you find an item you are looking for-don’t stop there! Scroll down near the bottom of the listing under “FIND SIMILAR LISTINGS” and continue your search by clicking one of the options. I often find more listings of what I’m searching for that way.
-
Click that LIKE button!
- When you find that item you are searching for, click ‘LIKE.’ That way you can easily find it again. I try to find as many options in the size I need. That way I can compare the average cost and condition for the item. For example, I like to get Lily Pulitzer items on Poshmark a lot. Often times I search for matching items for my girls and me. The price can vary widely from $20-$100+ on the same item. Getting an idea of the general cost can save you big time! That way you can ignore the listings that are way overpriced.
-
Follow, follow, follow
- If you find a seller with items you like, or a similar size, follow them. That way when they add more items to their closet, you will know. It’s also helpful to follow designers you like. When you search, you can look at ‘new in’ and click that ‘LIKE’ button more!
-
Add to bundle
- Just because you add something to your bundle, doesn’t mean you are going to purchase it. I’ve found that by adding an item to your bundle, it gives sellers a chance to offer you a special deal. Sellers are notified when a buyer adds an item to a bundle. Then they can offer a lower cost and lower shipping cost just to you. If they are very motivated this can be $5 or more off the price. And the more items in your bundle from one seller, the better the chance for a good discount.
-
Check out the seller
- When deciding if you want to purchase an item, make sure you check out the seller profile. Although Poshmark will refund you if anything goes wrong, it’s much easier to avoid the hassle. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, am I right? Two things you want to look for:
- Last activity date- there are many profiles that are no longer used regularly. Don’t buy from these!
- Rating- look for sellers with 4-5 stars and decent shipping times.

Ask Questions, Chat
- Some sellers only put the bare minimum information on their listings. Some are really good about including measurements and taking good photos. So if you have questions, ask! If you want to keep your comment or question private, add the item to your bundle and then there is an option to add a comment. That way you can communicate with the seller
-
Keep your notifications on
- When a seller reduces a price, there is reduced shipping, or similar items are available you get notified via email. That way you are aware of when you can get a deal.
-
Make an offer
- If the price is right, by all means purchase. But if you’d like a few extra dollars off, go ahead and try to make an offer. It may work, it may not. My experience has been good as long as you don’t lowball. If your offer is about $5 or less lower than the price, most sellers will typically just accept it. If they don’t, you can just purchase the item at the set price.
-
Avoid high-end designer
- I’ve purchased plenty of brand name items like J.Crew, Vineyard Vines, Kate Spade, and Lily Pulitzer. But I’ve shied away from designer. Although Poshmark has an authentication process, I just don’t feel comfortable.
I hope these 10 tips help you get started and get the best deals you can! I don’t sell too much , but I love keeping my credits on there and using them to purchase splurge items that I would never pay full price for. What deals have you scored on Poshmark?
