I realized it has been a few years since I did our last holiday home tour. Since we made a few changes over the years I thought it would be fun to update it and see how I decorate for the holidays.
I have definitely gone full on buffalo plaid theme for our front door. My SIL made the reversible sign for us and I love playing up the plaid in our welcome mat, door hanger and antique sled.
Right when you enter, you see our stairway. I was so excited to decorate it with garland our first Christmas here and still love how festive it looks. Since moving we have painted the entryway to a light cream color and added a lot of millwork/waincotting. We also changed the tile from a basic white square to a quartz-like ceramic this past summer. I love how much more open and airy the entryway feels now.
I used to have a small table here, but got this antique tea cart that I refinished instead. It looks so much prettier!
To the left when you enter is our dining room. We also painted it a lighter color to match our living room and kitchen. It’s a very soft green. Last year we had the wainscotting added. The leather chair is in the corner just for now to help make room for our Christmas tree.
To the right when you enter is Matt’s office that he uses when he works from home. I added wreaths on the doors. They help hide his occasionally messy desk, too. Ha! I still have the felt Christmas tree although this may be the last year. My kids are growing out of it. I love using the chalkboard each holiday and season and try to switch it up often.
Well, this living room is kind of a big change since last time! We painted, ripped out the carpet and had hardwood installed to match the dining room and changed the light fixture! We also got a new couch and rug. I love this room! You can see the additional millwork we had added on the archways, too.
I keep clicking back to my post from 3 years ago to see the changes. I reframed this painting we bought in Dublin over 10 years ago. Amazing what a difference a nice frame can make. It fills the space so much better.
This sleigh is where we keep our holiday cards. I love switching out our pillow covers for Christmas, too.
Through our living room is our sunroom where we have our Christmas tree. It works out well because there are higher ceilings and more space so it isn’t int he way. I work in this room and love seeing he tree everyday. We hope to have beams installed in this room made from wood from my grandpa’s farm, but that is a story for another day.
Our kitchen hasn’t changed much. I kept the colors and decor the same. The new tile really freshens it up though.
This is our tiny butler’s pantry. There isn’t much space so I decorate it the same way.
Past the butler’s pantry is the main floor bathroom, laundry room, and entrance into the garage. We had some cabinets taken out this summer, had a dog crate built in, and changed the counter top. It was a purply-blue and now is this gorgeous marble. The drying racks are so much more convenient and I have a lot more counter space here now. It’s wonderful to set things away and close the door if company comes.
Directly across from the laundry room is our main floor bath. This angle is as you come in from the garage so I like to have some festive signs on the wall there and a few things on the bathroom counter.
This entryway area we had built in just over a year ago. It’s a game changer! It’s the perfect height for the kids and a great place to hang backpacks, bags, and coats.
I don’t do too much decorating in our basement either. The only things we really add are on the mantle and I bring out all of our Christmas picture books by our little nativity set by the window.
Upstairs we have this cozy nook that I like to add a few things in. This area is much brighter now with wainscotting, brighter paint, and new light fixtures.
And that is about it aside from the few items we add to each of the bedrooms, but those aren’t really worth adding in. What do you think of the changes? If you are in the area make sure you stop by and I’ll set out the Christmas cookies for you! 😉
