We have so many fun things on our schedule for this last week in October our calendar is looking pretty crazy! But we are looking forward to all the activities like costume parades, class parties, trick or treating and more! Here is what else we have been up to this past month.
Books I’ve Read
- The Last Thing He Told Him by Laura Dave– Owen Michaels suddenly disappears leaving only a note with 2 words for his wife telling her to protect his daughter. Hannah, Owen’s wife, and Bailey, his daughter, set off to discover what happened and why Owen disappeared. I read this one for book club. It was fast paced, but held my attention. 3/5
- Find Us by Benjamin Stevenson– When retired detective finds her children missing, she goes on the hunt for them and their kidnappers. This was a novella I found to listen to while running. It was very good and I loved the twist ending! 4/5
Products I’ve Tried
- Nail Wraps- If you didn’t catch it yet, make sure you read my wrap on nail wraps from this week. I’ve been working on trying out and reviewing different nail wraps since this January and put together my experience and thoughts on them all.
- Comfy– I’ve actually had a comfy for years and love it for winter, but I got a leopard one this week. It’s lighter weight and super soft!
- Ghostbed– I was sent some sheets from Ghostbed to try out and they are literally the best sheets I’ve ever tried. They feel so smooth and really help us stay cool at night. There is a thick elastic band on the fitted sheet that really helps it stay in place. And the flat sheet is longer than normal so it tucks in really nicely on both sides of the bed. The one and only drawback is that they seem to wrinkle a lot in the wash.
- Dr. Emil Collagen Supplement- I really like these because they are in CAPSULE form! So much easier to take without needing to add it to beverages! I got a bottle free to try, but I plan on repurchasing!
Recipes I’ve Made
- Slow Cooker Chicken Provencal– We were all surprised at how much we love the flavors. It doesn’t look like much, but the chicken was really tender.
- Spaghetti Squash Alfredo– Another delicious fall meal! I made the chicken in the slow cooker to cut down on some of the prep time. I think some spinach mixed in would be good to add some color next time.
- Cod with Garlic Herb Butter– Matt was a big fan of this. It smelled and tasted so good!
- Cinnamon Blondies– I’m so glad I made a double batch of these. They were delicious! It took a bit of extra time to convert all of the measurements from metric, but well worth it. They are decadent!
Currently
- Appreciating- I am fully appreciating Aveline being in preschool, especially her lunch and learn days when she stays until 1:30! It’s wonderful to have her learning and socializing and having FUN! It’s also really nice to have some time to myself.
- Getting- I just bought some gymnastics leotards for Claire now that she starts gymnastics next week. Aveline will be in a class too, but I already have some that Claire used (life of a second child=hand-me-downs).
- Making- Now that Thanksgiving is around the corner I need to get started making some of the dishes that I can freeze like this cream cheese stuffed pumpkin bread. It freezes so well and is a great side dish for Thanksgiving!
- Sharing- I just got a new Comfy in the mail this week that is a super soft leopard print. And apparently I’m sharing. Avie has already claimed it and tries to wear it tied up with a hair tie to bed. Moms really don’t get anything to themselves. Haha!
- Wearing- It’s turned chilly all of the sudden and I’ve been wearing my moto jackets non-stop. They work well over so many outfits!
- Family Updates
- Me- As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I started a new job this month. I am working about 10 hours a week doing virtual speech therapy for a high school in Wisconsin. I really like it so far (apart from trying to chase students down virtually when they forget to zoom in!). Between that, PT, and blogging, I’ve been pretty busy. I have an 8 mile race this weekend I am looking forward to as well. I haven’t done a race since July.
- Matt- It sounds redundant every month, but he has been really busy with work. He was gone on 2 work trips back to back and travels again next week. We visited with some family friends this past week at a pumpkin patch so Matt was able to see their son, his godson. It was nice for all of us!
-
- Claire- Claire finished her soccer season and made some wonderful improvements to her skills. Her school recently did AIMS web testing and we were so proud of her results. She is busy with Girl Scouts again and having lots of fun. Claire also starts an after school club this week, too. Busy girl!
-
- Aveline- Avie is so excited for trick or treating and her upcoming birthday party! She has been talking about Skye from Paw Patrol non stop since that is her costume and the theme for her party. We made her the cutest outfit and I can’t wait to see her trick or treating in it! She has been having lots of play dates with a friend after school about once a week. It’s nice to see her making friends and transitioning from parallel play to associative play and more dramatic play, too.
October Goals Recap
- Schedule family photos- Double check for this one! I scheduled them and we got them taken last Saturday.
- Go apple picking- I took the girls a day they were off school and it was perfect. We’ve been eating apples nonstop.
- Get a script and start PT for my hip (again)- Done! I’ve been going to PT for about 3 weeks now.
- Organize winter accessories- Done! I donated a lot and organized the rest.
- Read a running book- Halfway there. I only have 40% read. But it’s really interesting so far.
November Goals
- Go to Amazon Fresh- We have an Amazon Fresh that opened up months ago and I still haven’t gone!
- Order a bookshelf for Claire’s room- She has one but it’s falling apart and I’d love to get a new one.
- Make a trip to Goodwill- I have a big pile of items that need to be donated so I would love to make a trip to Goodwill this coming month.
- Order Christmas cards- Now that we have our family photos done, once we receive them I want to get Christmas cards ordered.
