I’m so excited to be linking up with Leslie again for her 10 on the 10th. These posts have always been so interesting to read and I’m really trying to participate in them each month. You can see my past answers for February and March. She does a wonderful job asking questions and you learn so much about each blogger!
- What was your first job? I babysat A LOT in middle school and high school. I did some nanny work over the summers, but my first actual job was at church as the nursery supervisor during services.
- Tell us about the best job you’ve ever had? I think the best job I’ve had was my part-time position as a Speech Pathologist when we lived in Franklin. I loved the school and the people I worked with. The kids and the families were wonderful and the part-time was the perfect work/life balance. I miss it!
- Are you a saver or a spender? Most definitely a saver! I have a hard time allowing myself to spend money on ‘extras’ or ‘splurges’. Big purchases are hard, too! I would much prefer to see that $$$ in the bank! Matt has been more of a spender so in a way we balance each other out which is nice. He encourages me to loosen up and he has learned to save and be more careful with money from me.
- Have you ever played the stock market? No! It’s overwhelming and scary to me. I wouldn’t know where to start. We have different investments like mutual funds and bonds though.
- What is your favorite way to splurge? I prefer to splurge on travel. If you buy things, they can get lost or break. But experiences can help you learn and grow as a person!
- How do you save money? Hmmm. Well we make monthly deposits to our multiple savings accounts. So we have a college account for each of our daughters and IRAs for each of us. We also have a savings account we put money into each month. It’s much easier to save when everything is done for you! But saving day-to-day, I would say I really try hard to limit unnecessary purchases (no Starbucks), shop sales, buy generic, and cook at home. We buy clothing at the end of season sales for next year for the girls and try to use coupons when possible. I like to use rakuten (affiliate link) and purchase online when I can for their cashback rewards.
- Who pays the bills? Our bank? Haha! Actually we have most of our bills on autopay so it’s easier that way. The only bills we get are for gas and then the credit card. Matt normally pays the credit card and I write the gas check and mail it.
- Name brand or generic groceries? In accordance with my ‘saver’ status, I typically purchase generic groceries. But there are a few name brand ones I get because they are worth it. No one does dish soap like Dawn. I love Frosted Shredded Wheat for breakfast-the generic is not the same!
- Do you shop thrift stores and yard sales? Thrift stores-yes, yard sales-no. I can see why yard sales would be fun, but they take time I don’t have. Estate sales would be fun to try! But I find thrift stores to be the easiest to find items since they have a wide selection and are fairly organized.
- Is there anything you collect or save thinking it might be valuable some day? No, I don’t collect anything just for the purpose of monetary gain in the future. I feel like value can be so unreliable and then finding a buyer to purchase for the price you want to sell would be hard. I do have some antiques like wine glasses and silver, but I really just have it for my enjoyment!
