I think as I get older, the earlier I begin to think about holiday gift giving. I think this is for several reasons; I have more and more people in my life I’d like to get a gift for, I like to make some of my gifts so it takes time, we have a Christmas baby, and our budget is a bit larger than it was say, 10 years ago which means more gifts! Gift cards are a popular option, and certainly one that I love to receive, I try to avoid them because they can feel a bit impersonal. I mean no thought really goes into it other than choosing the store to buy from. Watches are a classic gift—and for good reason. Not only are they practical, but they can also be a great accessory to complement any outfit. Who doesn’t love a good, comforting smell? If you know someone’s favorite scent or a particular one that sparks a happy memory for them, then get something along those lines. Maybe they have a specific perfume or cologne that they like to wear and could use a new bottle. Or maybe their home always smells like lavender or citrus, in which case you could get them a scented candle. If they’ve talked about how their grandma’s house always smelled like fresh-baked cookies—they make candles with that scent, too.
