Now that we’ve been living in our new home for a year and a half, we’ve slowly been redoing some rooms in our home. Our home is far from a fixer-upper, but it’s nice to be able to add some touches to it here and there. Not to mention that most of our furniture we purchased when we got married or shortly afterwards so it’s starting to show wear. It wasn’t the best quality either and we are starting to replace it with nicer things. I am not sure if I could live in a place without imaging how I can switch it around and change it! If you need a refresher of how our home looked after we moved in, my original home tour post is here. After getting an under the counter microwave installed this past fall, our second project was to get wood floors installed in the living room and sunroom. We initially had an ivory carpet which was fine. But as spring came, the dog brought muddy paws in and it was looking awful. It was also the oldest carpet in the house. So after getting some quotes, we found an amazing local flooring company to work with and had Brazilian Cherry hardwood put in. We also have Brazilian cherry in the dining room and office so eventually as our new flooring ages it will look the same. We also had them put in a border with a Peruvian Walnut strip of wood around the living room to really set it off and I am SO happy with how it turned out!
Of course as home projects go, one thing snowballed into another. Since all of our furniture was out of the room, we ended up painting it from a dark yellow to a soft greyish green. It brightened the room up a lot. We had already purchased a new couch and chair this past winter. Then we switched the drapes, got area rugs, new lamps, and throw pillows. It still has the traditional feel we love, but it’s lighter and brighter and much more inviting. We absolutely love it!

We didn’t do much in the sunroom other than move our old chair in there for a reading nook and redo the flooring, but it still makes a difference!
Here is the view of the other side of the sunroom. Eventually this will be my craft room/office. |
While we were in the painting mode we decided to paint the dining room to match and help the house flow. It was a tan color. This was a fun project and really helped distract us from being stuck at home. I just love the rooms now and how they are so much more our style. Of course now I want to paint Matt’s office, too! But that may have to wait until he is back at work. And we are currently debating on the color. I want a dark grey, dark blue, or dark grey/green.
Next up on our project list is to get some wainscoting done in the dining room and on the stairway up to the second floor to create a feature wall. I’d love to get the entryway painted and replace the chandelier and sconces on our second floor, too. Hopefully that can be done in the next year or so. After that we want to get new tile flooring in the entryway and kitchen. It can be hard work to get quotes and make selections, but I’m always so happy when they are done and we can enjoy them! I love a good ‘before’ and ‘after,’ don’t you?!
