It’s been a while since I had the opportunity to share a recipe! Most of my content lately has been fashion or beauty focused, but I do love to spend time in the kitchen so I was happy when Leslie from Once Upon a Time, Happily Ever After reached out to put together this Recipe Swap & Blog Hop! So if you are coming from The Cajun Couple, thank you for visiting! Make sure you head to Once Upon a Time, Happily Ever After to see her delicious recipe after you read mine!
Although this recipe swap is themed “Labor of Love” I think all food preparation for your family is a labor of love! It doesn’t always have to take a lot of time to make a delicious meal or tasty dessert. And with two children who love to join me in the kitchen, the easier a recipe is, the better because they can take part more. So I am sharing a candy recipe I got from my mother-in-law a few years ago. It’s easy, fast, and makes a lot so we often make it around the holidays. Did I mention it is no bake, too?
Cheerios definitely make a delicious breakfast choice, but you can use them in recipes, too! One of our favorite family cookie recipes uses Cheerios. And they are incredibly simple to make. There are also some fun ways to switch up this recipe by using different flavors of Cheerios or even swapping the Cheerios for Rice Krispies. It all depends on what your preference is. I go back and forth on which cereal I use.
It’s nice that this recipe involves lots of adding ingredients to a bowl and mixing so there are many opportunities for kids to take part. And scooping spoonfuls of this to the cookie sheet is fun for them, too.
Hungry yet? Here’s the recipe! It only takes me about 30 minutes to make.
Cereal Candy Cookies
1 12oz. package chocolate chips
2lbs. white bark (or white chocolate chips)
12oz. peanut butter
4c. Cheerios™
4c. mini marshmallows
2c. dry roasted peanuts (optional)
1. Melt chocolate chips, bark, and peanut butter in a double boiler. Remove from heat & blend well. You can also use a microwave safe bowl and melt them 30 seconds at a time in the microwave.
2. In a separate (very large) bowl mix cereal, marshmallows, and peanuts.
3. Pour melted chocolate mixture over cereal mixture and mix well.
4. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto wax paper.* Makes 120.
Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator or freezer.
*Tip-Use two cookie sheets lined with wax paper. Once one sheet is full of cookies, pop it into the freezer so they harden more quickly. Once the second sheet is full, switch them. The first sheet should be set by then. It goes much faster that way!
Now make sure you head on over to Leslie at Once Upon a Time, Happily Ever After to see her delicious recipe!
