A few months ago, Matt and I visited several jewelry stores. After our long road through infertility, Matt wanted to get me a special push present after Aveline was born. We talked a lot about what type of jewelry I wanted, the style, metal, and gems. After a lot of searching I finally found the perfect diamond ring for my right hand. I love it and wear it everyday! As soon as Matt told me he wanted to buy me something after Aveline was born, I immediately decided I wanted it to have diamonds. They are beautiful gems that go with everything. They can be worn for special occasions or everyday. It got me to thinking about the saying, “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” It is a phrase which has been going around for decades yet many of us wonder where it actually came from. Diamonds are stunning and considered to be one of the most precious materials on the planet. But I got to thinking, why do we have such as fascination with them? What
makes them so special and so desired?
1. They Symbolize Love
The main reason that associates diamonds with women is because often when a man proposes, it is with a stunning diamond ring from a jeweler like Brilliant Earth. Women are typically more romantic than men, so when we get grand gestures of affection like this means a lot. A diamond is unbreakable which is why it is the stone of choice for engagement rings all over the world. It signifies a bond which can never be destroyed, and a true love which will never be broken or bent. And it’s also practical because it can take a lot of wear and tear for those of us that wear our rings everyday!
2. They are Romantic
Due to the rarity and the value of diamonds they are seen as romantic in popular culture. It doesn’t even have to be anything to do with a proposal, it could simply be a man giving you a diamond necklaceand putting it on for you. Or recently for me, a push present in the form of a right hand ring! The idea that our partner values us enough to buy something so valuable for us to wear is a sign of deep and lasting love. It shows is that they value us even more than a diamond in their eyes.
3. They Last Forever
As we already know, diamonds are one of the strongest materials on earth and this is why they are so valuable amongst the wealth of gems we have access to. A diamond is a piece which can be passed down through the generations of a family.
This can hold value in an of itself as an item over the years. You could have a diamond in the family for hundreds of years and this will hold great value to you and your family not only as a piece but also sentimentally when you start to think about all the amazing stories associated with this one piece.
4. Memories
The reason why diamonds are a girl’s best friend is because they hold special memories for us throughout our lives. A diamond isn’t just something a friend would buy you just for the sake of it, it is an item which is only bought on a special occasion and therefore it always holds that sort of value to us. We can look at every diamond piece we have and see a story or memory behind it. You could have received your engagement ring from the love of your life, a diamond necklace from your parents as you entered adulthood, and even a pair of earrings given to you by your grandma. All of these things leave us happy and fuzzy inside whenever we recount them. I know I always look down at my engagement, wedding, and anniversary bands and think of all the wonderful years I have spent with my husband. Now I look down at my other ring and think of my beautiful daughters. Diamonds and special jewelry pieces can prompt memories whenever you glance at them.
