For me, January and February are the worst months of the year…maybe even March some years. Why? Because of the weather mostly. They are gray, drab months with seemingly endless snow and cold (and colder) weather. There’s really nothing to look forward to like Christmas or New Years. It just seems like a long way till spring. It really doesn’t help that we’ve been having a serious cold snap this week. Today I am sharing some tips on how I get through.
1. Your base layer is most important. Before I even start to plan my outfit, I make sure I have good quality and comfortable undergarments. My favorite are the Hanes Ultimate bras. You can’t beat the comfort. They are incredibly soft. Today I have the Hanes Ultimate t-shirt soft Underwire Bra. It’s smooth and supportive all day long. I add a white cotton tank and tuck into my pants or skirt. You can also add a thin long sleeve tee or button up depending on the outfit. Don’t forget your wool socks either!
2. Try a sweater. This seems obvious, but I can’t wear long sleeve tops on their own in the dead of winter. Sweaters are a must. Even a long sleeve dress might not be warm enough, but a thick extra layer makes all the difference.
3. Add a vest or blazer over top. Even if you added a sweater you can always add another layer by adding a vest or blazer. It adds dimension, another texture or pattern, structure, AND warmth!
4. Don’t forget the scarf- The scarf has to be my favorite winter layer. It helps keep draftsfrom turning into goosebumps all down my back! You cannot beat the amount of options for scarves either. There are knit, lightweight, and everything in between. Also refer to #3 in regard to adding texture, pattern, etc.
5. Invest in fleece lined tights and leggings. Don’t put your dresses and skirts away in the winter. Fleece lined tights and leggings are life changing. I recommend a pair offur-lined leggingsactually. I got a pair this winter and they are amazing.
